Subotnick’s contribution to electronic dance music is indisputable. As a part of San Francisco Tape Music Center he played a key role in the development of the Buchia modular synthesizer and in 1967. he made SILVER APPLES OF THE MOON, the first completely electronic album that was widely accepted by the audience.

The documentary will feature the living legends of Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nils), Gary Numan, Vince Clarke (Erasure) and more contemporary dance music artist such as Carl Craig, James Holden and Legowelt, and the synthesizer manufacturers Doepfer, Modcan and Make Noise. The film will be presented by the director Robert Fantinatto and will host a Q&A after the projections with Subotnick, where visitors will be able to ask everything they ever wanted to know about the beginnings of the music they love.

Following the development of one instrument we are simultaneously going to follow the development of electronic music itself from the dawn of experimenting with the new sounds at hand. Special focus was put on the ways in which the technology changed music and the syntheseizer is viewed as an essential tool that helped develop one entire subculture. So make sure to catch it in Berlin, or just stay put and wait for the official release!
